Storytelling Part 2 (Expressive Lies Cont.)

I have wound up over-committing myself, which means the update will have to wait a little while longer. It’s tough work creating an in-depth and professional yet personal piece about how life gets away from oneself. So, in the mean time, here’s part 2 of the 5-page comic Storytelling.

Page 2I am enjoying the simplicity of this comic – as well as drawing the 7 main characters. It’s also been a lot of fun creating an urban legend of my own, especially as Jan Brunvard [famous folklorist and author of The Vanishing Hitchhiker (1981)] was and is my folkloristics role model. These kinds of stories were my first exposure to thinking critically about everyday life – and at the young age of 12 years old, too!

It is a bit tough for me to draw muscular men, though I’m not sure why. I suppose it’s a matter of concern because female and male bodies seem so similar to me yet have such distinct cultural boundaries drawn around them. In any case, the next few pages for this story are already in the sketching stage, so you should see them soon-ish. If not for a job interview later this week, they’d be on your devices/Internets within the week!

Until next time,

J.
